Dunedin Blue Jays News Release
DUNEDIN, FL - In a wild and crazy four hour contest, the Clearwater Threshers (20-11) ultimately pulled out a 4-3 victory in 13 innings over the Dunedin Blue Jays (14-17). 3B Mitch Walding's RBI-single with the bases loaded put game two of the four game series to rest.
This was a game that saw benches clear, leads blown, and a position player pitching. 2B Dickie Joe Thon (L, 0-1) came in for the 13th for Dunedin after six Jays' pitchers came before him. RHP Conner Greene allowed a run over 5.2 innings while walking a season-high six batters.
The Jays battled after Greene allowed a first inning run. They tied the game and took the lead on two bases loaded walks in the sixth by LF D.J. Davis and DH L.B. Dantzler. Dunedin added one more in the seventh when 3B Jason Leblebijian lifted a solo shot to left.
It's worth mentioning that C Gabriel Lino was hit by a pitch in the eighth. In the top of the ninth, SS Richard Urena was also hit. Urena flung his bat in disgust which brought the benches as well as the bullpens to the infield. No punches were thrown and the game continued on.
In the bottom of the ninth, with RHP Chris Rowley on the mound, SS Malquin Canelo led off reaching on a Leblebijian throwing error. CF Carlos Tocci doubled two batters later to cut the deficit to one. LHP Tim Mayza entered to record the final two outs, but Walding tied the game up with a two out single to left field, forcing extras.
The two teams are back in Dunedin on Wednesday night with first pitch scheduled for 6:30 pm. RHP Brad Allen will start for the Jays facing off against RHP Tom Eshelman.
