Sioux City Musketeers News Release
SIOUX CITY, IA - The Musketeers were back in action on Tuesday for their fourth game in six days, but the gas tank looked full as they cruised to a 3-0 victory over the Des Moines Buccaneers on Rock the Rink night.
Just 33 seconds into the game Des Moines was called for interference, giving Sioux City an early opportunity on the powerplay and it did not go to waste. Ian Malcolmson scored his first USHL goal just 1:50 into the game to give Sioux City a 1-0 lead. Matt Miller and Brady Smith had the assists on the goal.
Des Moines would get a prime opportunity of their own on a 5-on-3 powerplay, but the man of the night, Ben Kraws, was stellar in net, shutting down any chance that the Bucs had with the two-man advantage. The Musketeers would head into the locker up one after the 1st period.
The 2nd period was mostly uneventful. The Musketeer penalty kill would have to shut down two more powerplay opportunities, making it look easy. Once again, Kraws would stand tall in net stopping all nine shots sent his way.
The Musketeer powerplay came up big again in the 3rd period. This time it was Parker Ford finding the back of the net for the Musketeers on the man advantage. Martin Pospisil and Luke Johnson had the assists on the goal. Sioux City smothered the Bucs the rest of the game, stopping Des Moines in their tracks and not allowing them to sustain any offensive pressure.
Brock Baker scored his first USHL goal at the 15:21 mark of the 3rd period to give the Musketeers a solid 3-0 cushion for the rest of the game. Ian Malcolmson had the lone assist on the goal.
The big story of the night was, of course, Big Ben Kraws, who stopped all 23 Des Moines shots to earned a well deserved shutout. Kraws has been the backbone for this Musketeer team early this season and showed Musketeer fans why they should have no worries in net this season.
The Musketeers will be back in action on Friday night in Sioux Falls before coming home on Saturday to face the Stampede again for Cross Check Cancer night. Puck drop is set for 7:05pm. Be sure to wear lavender!
