GENEVA, ILLINOIS - Over $4,800 was raised during a special jersey auction to benefit the American Cancer Society Making Strides Against Breast Cancer on Friday, October 19, during the Chicago Steel's Paint the Rink Pink Night presented by V Fusion Studio.

The Steel wore special pink jerseys that were auctioned during the game to raise funds for American Cancer Society. The jerseys featured a pink ribbon on the right chest and gray stripes on bottom of the jersey and arms. The jerseys, designed by Gemini Athleticwear, were purchased by V Fusion Studio whose logo was featured on both shoulders.

Funds from the jersey auction will go to raise money to fund innovative research, provide free information and support, and to help people reduce their breast cancer risk or find it early when its most treatable.

"The Chicago Steel have been a great partner to our organization, and the funds they raised will go towards helping ensure more lives can be saved from cancer," said Jennifer Brauer, Program Manager of Corporate Account Operations of American Cancer Society, Inc. "We were excited to be able to honor one of our cancer survivors at the game, as well as invite out so many of our organization's supporters."

During the game, which featured pink-themed promotions, the team recognized Jo Marie Gagala, a breast cancer survivor, who received a standing ovation from the crowd of more than 1,000 in attendance. Fans received pink ribbons as they entered the Fox Valley Ice Arena and in-game contests included a Pink Balloon Race on the ice, Finish the Lyrics featuring songs from P!nk and Pink Floyd, and a video of Steel players competing to blow the biggest bubble with pink chewing gum.

"We'd like to thank V Fusion Studio for sponsoring the event and our great fans for supporting the fight against breast cancer," said Steel President Dan Lehv. "Thanks to their generosity, we are proud to be able to contribute funds towards the work that the American Cancer Society is doing in our region."

Steel players delivered the game-worn jerseys and took photos with auction winners immediately after the game and autographed the commemorative jerseys. Two sweater, Jake Schmaltz and Jaden Shields, sold for $400 each - the highest totals of the night.
