Sioux Falls Stampede News Release
Sioux Falls, S.D. - Cooper Marody became the 26th former Stampede player to skate in an NHL game when he played for the Edmonton Oilers Tuesday night in their 6-5 overtime loss to the Pittsburgh Penguins. Marody logged nearly 10 minutes of ice time and posted two shots on goal. Another former Stampede star, Jamie Oleksiak, tallied two goals for the Penguins in the game.
Marody was called up by the Oilers after posting six points (2g, 4a) with the Bakersfield Condors, the top affiliate of the Oilers. Marody spent the previous three seasons skating at the University of Michigan. Last season, he helped guide the Wolverines to the NCAA Tournament while leading the team in scoring with 51 points (16g, 35a) an a plus/minus rating of plus-20 in just 40 games.
Marody made a name for himself with Stampede fans during the 2014-15 season. Acquired in a trade from Muskegon, Marody caught fire a played a key role in the Stampede securing the fourth and final playoff spot in the Western Conference. He tallied 49 points (20g, 29a) in just 38 regular season games. He followed up that performance with 12 points (1g, 11a) during the 2015 Clark Cup Playoffs in which the Herd upset the top seeded Sioux City Musketeers, defeated Tri-City in the Western Conference Final and then swept the Muskegon Lumberjacks in three games to capture the Clark Cup.
That summer Marody was selected in the 6th round of the NHL Draft by the Philadelphia Flyers. Last March, Marody was acquired by the Oilers from the Flyers in exchange for a third round pick in the 2019 NHL Draft.
Marody hopes to stick with the Oilers who host the defending Clark Cup champion Washington Capitals on Thursday in Edmonton.
The Stampede return to action Friday night when they host the Sioux City Musketeers at 7:05 PM at the PREMIER Center. Kids can trick-or-treat in the concourse before the game and take part in a costume parade in between periods. Tickets are available through the KELOLAND Box Office at the PREMIER Center or any Ticketmaster outlet.
