
Belters Sign Former Diamondbacks Prospect, Derek Luciano

NORMAL, Ill. - The Normal CornBelters, presented by Illinois Corn Farmers, are pleased to announce the signing of former Diamondbacks prospect and third baseman, Derek Luciano. The CornBelters will play their first game of the 2012 season at the Corn Crib on Friday, May 18 at 6:30 p.m. (CEFCU Opening Night).
Luciano was drafted by the Arizona Diamondbacks in the 44th round of the 2011 MLB June Amateur Draft. He joined the Arizona League Diamondbacks (Rookie) last season and contributed 42 hits, three home runs, 23 RBI, and a .282 batting average.
"Derek is an outstanding prospect," said CornBelters Field Manager Chad Parker. "His hitting backed with power and he is a great defender."
