Beloit Crushes Peoria to Celebrate 4th

July 4, 2022 - Midwest League (MWL)
Beloit Sky Carp News Release

After entering the seventh inning trailing Peoria 3-2, Beloit pounded in nine runs to defeat the Chiefs 11-3 on Monday evening at Dozer Park in Peoria.

The holiday contest started with early action, as Beloit scored first via a Victor Mesa RBI single in the first. The 1-0 lead didn't last long, though, as Todd Lott took Chris Mokma deep in the bottom half to tie the game.

In the third, Lott repeated the act with a second solo homer to push Peoria's lead to 2-1. That lead grew to 3-1 with a sac-fly in the fourth inning.

From there on out, it was all Beloit.

In the fifth, Nasim Nunez got the Sky Carp within one with an opposite field solo homer to left field, his second of the year.

On the other side of the scorecard, Mokma settled in to record his best outing of the year with Beloit. The righty worked 1-2-3 frames in the fifth and sixth to set up the Sky Carp for a booming seventh.

Beloit tallied five runs in the seventh, highlighted by a go-ahead RBI single from Nunez and a two-RBI knock from Ynmanol Marinez.

In the bottom half, Mokma tossed a scoreless frame to cap off his strong outing.

To add insult to injury, the Sky Carp parlayed four walks and four hits into four runs in the top of the 9th to seal an 11-3 victory.

After a rare Tuesday day off, Beloit and Peoria will square off again on Wednesday night for a 6:35 first pitch at Dozer Park. Fans can listen to the action on the Big Radio App.
