Bell Returns; Spokane Adds Four More

September 27, 2011 - Arena Football League (AFL)
Spokane Shock News Release

Spokane, WA: The Spokane Shock announced today that LB Beau Bell has re-signed with the team. Bell becomes the fourth player from the 2011 roster to rejoin the team. In other transactions, Spokane also added WR Joe Hills, OL Cory Brandon, OL Collin Cordell and DB Lametrius Davis to the 2012 roster.

As an AFL-rookie last season, Bell recorded 51.5 total tackles with 5.5 sacks, four forced fumbles, three pass break-ups, one fumble recovery, three QB hurries, and one blocked kick. After appearing in 13 games for Spokane, Bell was signed by the UFL's Las Vegas Locomotives before he was released towards the end of training camp.

After a decorated collegiate career at UNLV, where he recorded 320 tackles (third in school history), Bell caught the attention of the Cleveland Browns who selected him in the fourth round of the 2008 NFL Draft.

"Beau Bell is a very important part of our defense," Head Coach Andy Olson said. "He is a hard hitter and is one of the best tacklers in the league. Beau is full of energy and has a great locker room presence and we couldn't be happier that he will return."

Hills will be a rookie in the AFL this season, but he gained NFL experience earlier this season when he signed with the Tennessee Titans as an undrafted free agent. Prior to his professional career, Hills recorded 79 receptions for 1,000 yards with seven touchdowns in two seasons at Tennessee State University.

Brandon, who was in camp with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers earlier this year, finished his collegiate career at the University of Oklahoma in 2010. As a Sooner, Brandon played in 30 games and was on the preseason Outland Trophy Preseason Watch List as in his senior campaign.

Cordell starred at Fort Valley State University where he started 32 of his final 33 games as a Wildcat. After his senior campaign, Cordell was invited to the East Coast All-Star Bowl.

Davis will enter his first season in the AFL after a successful college career at the University of Hawaii. As a Warrior, Davis registered 96 tackles and three interceptions in only 27 games. Prior to transferring to Hawaii, Davis attended Butte Community College where he helped his team to the 2008 Championship and a perfect 12-0 record.

"In our second wave of free agents we were able to address some of the needs we have as we continue to build our roster," Head Coach Andy Olson explained. "We still have a lot more players to add but I know we are off to a great start."
