Burlington Bees News Release

Patrick Lowery delivered seven innings of one-run ball, allowing just two hits, as the Burlington Bees edged the Clinton Lumberkings 5-3 on Wednesday night at Pohlman Field. This is the first time that the Bees have won three games in a row this season.

Lowery led the way for Burlington (16-24), giving up one run on two hits in the second inning, but not allowing another hit by the Lumberkings (22-22) in his final five innings on the mound. Garrett Baker picked up for Lowery and did not allow a hit until a two-out two-run home run by Taylor Ard in the bottom of the ninth.

Offensively, the bottom of the order took care of business for Burlington. In the second, Sandy Martinez came to the plate with Brennan Gowens at third and Chance Ross at first, and brought home both guys with a two-run double. Ross and Gowens had both reached on singles earlier in the inning. The next batter was Pedro Toribio, who doubled home Martinez to give the Bees a 3-0 lead.

The Bees led 3-1 until the fourth when Ross, making his Bees' debut, belted a solo home run over the left field wall to put the Bees out in front by a 4-1 score.

Neither team would get a hit until the ninth inning. Gowens led off with a single and came home on a Chevy Clarke RBI double.

Tyler Marlette reached on a one-out error in the ninth and scored on an Ard two-run home run. It was a little too late for Clinton, as Burlington's offense did enough to pick up the victory.

Burlington will try to make it four in a row when Jake Boyd takes the mound opposite of Scott DeCecco. First pitch on Thursday night is slated for 6:30 p.m. on gobees.com or News Radio 1490 KBUR.
