
Captains Outslugged By Lugnuts

Lake County Captains News Release
Lansing, MI - The Lansing Lugnuts (20-23) snuck by the Lake County Captains (15-28) by a final of 9-8 on Wednesday afternoon in Lansing, Michigan. The Captains were trailing 9-3 heading to the ninth inning. In the final frame Lake County scored five runs highlighted by an Erik Gonzalez triple. Gonzalez had four RBI's on the day. The Captains batted around but fell one run short.
Erik Gonzalez hit the first pitch of the game over the centerfield wall and gave the Captains the early 1-0 lead. Dorssys Paulino hit a triple to right field and Logan Vick hit a sac fly to left field and the score was 2-0 Captains.
In the bottom of the first inning, Lansing scored five runs to take the lead. Kevin Patterson and Carlos Ramirez hit homers and the Lugnuts led by three runs. Lansing made it a fourrun game by scoring a run in the bottom of the fourth inning. Emilio Guerrero scored on an RBi double by Dalton Pompey and the score was 6-2 Lugnuts.
Lake County made it a 6-3 game when Erik Gonzalez hit a groundout to plate Claudio Bautista and the Lansing lead was trimmed to three runs.
Lansing put the icing on the cake with a three run seventh inning. Chris Hawkins singled home Kevin Patterson for the final run of the inning and the score after seven innings was 9-3 Lansing. The Lugnuts had a hold on the game until the ninth inning when the Captains started their comeback. Lansing finished the job and escaped with a one run lead.
RHP Luis Dejesus (0-5) started for the Captains. Dejesus pitched four innings, and allowed seven hits, six earned runs, two walks and eight strikeouts. Luis allowed two homers and now 10 on the season. Dejesus was saddled with the loss. Luis Morel pitched the final four innings for the Captains. Morel gave up three hits, three runs, two earned runs, one walk and he fanned two.
The Lugnuts sent RHP Ben White (2-3) to the mound to start the game. White pitched five innings, six hits three earned runs he walked three and struck out four. White earned the win. The Lugnuts used three more relief pitchers. Ian Kadish gave up all the runs in the ninth and Arik Sikula earned his fourth save of the season.
The Captains will conclude the quick three game road trip to Lansing. Thursday Night the Captains will send LHP Ryan Merritt (2-3, 3.35) to the mound and the Lugnuts will counter with LHP Daniel Norris (0-3, 7.71). First pitch is scheduled for 7:05 PM.
