Burlington, IA (Aug 23, 2008) - The Burlington Bees extended their winning streak to nine games with a 5-3 victory over Beloit Saturday night. With the win, the Bees have taken the first three games of the four-game series against Beloit and are one win away from securing their first playoff berth since 1999.

The Snappers scored the first two runs of the ballgame in the third inning. The game stayed 2-0 all the way until the bottom of the fifth inning when the Bees scored three runs. With one out, Jamar Walton hit a double. After a ground-out that moved Walton to third, Ryan Eigsti was hit by a pitch to put runners at the corners with two outs. David Lough then doubled to score both Walton and Eigsti and tie the ballgame. Johnny Giavotella then doubled to score Lough and the Bees led 3-2.

In the top of the sixth inning, the Snappers scored a run to tie the game. The Bees took the lead for good in the bottom of the seventh inning by scoring two more runs. Walton led the inning off with a single and then was replaced on the base paths by Juan Rivera, who reached on a Fielder's Choice. After one out was recorded and Rivera had stolen second base, Lough was intentionally walked. With Giavotella at the plate, Rivera stole third and then scored on a Giavotella single, which also moved Lough to third. Mike Moustakas then singled to score Lough and the Bees held the lead 5-3.

Danny Gutierrez got the start for the Bees. In six innings, he allowed three runs, one of which was earned, on five hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Zach Peterson pitched the final three innings allowing just one hit with five strikeouts and one walk. Peterson took the win to move to 3-3 this season.

The Bees outhit Beloit 8-6. Giavotella, Moustakas and Walton each had two hits. Giavotella and Lough each had two RBI. Lough also scored two runs. The Bees had four errors in the game, which ties a season-high. The Snappers did not commit an error. A Bees win or Quad Cities loss on Sunday will secure a playoff position for the Bees. The Bees' magic number to win the second half western division title is down to five games with nine games remaining in the regular season.

The Bees conclude the series with Beloit Sunday afternoon at Community Field. Brent Fisher is the scheduled starter for the Bees. First pitch is scheduled for 2:00. The game can be heard on 1490 KBUR and online at www.GoBees.com. Tickets are still available by logging on to www.GoBees.com or by visiting Community Field.
