Burlington Bees News Release
Burlington, IA - The Bees put up seven unanswered runs in the final two innings at Time Warner Cable Field at Fox Cities Stadium to close the gap in an 11-7 loss to the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers on Saturday night.
The late barrage started with a leadoff walk to Gerard Hall in the eighth with the Bees trailing 11-0. Wil Myers and Joey Lewis added singles to load the bases, and Carlo Testa drove in the first run with a fielder's choice. The next batter, Rene Oriental, lifted a fly ball into the left field corner that Khris Davis failed to come up with, allowing two more to come home to cut the deficit to eight.
Fast-forward to the ninth, where the Bees found themselves down to their final out with a runner on first. J.D. Alfaro hit a pop-up toward second that looked like it would end the game, but Scooter Gennett lost the ball in the lights and it fell in shallow right field for a gift double. Myers drew a walk, and Lewis and Testa followed with back-to-back doubles to bring the Bees to within four. Dreams of a miracle comeback fell to the wayside when Oriental flew out to right field to end the contest.
Jake Odorizzi (W, 4-1), who no-hit the Bees for five innings on April 16, was credited with the win after becoming just the third opposing pitcher to strike out 10 Bees. The Illinois native twirled six shutout innings with four hits and no walks.
His counterpart, Keaton Hayenga (L, 1-6), was touched for eight runs on six hits in five and a third innings. Ryan Dennick led the Bees' relief corps with a scoreless bottom of the eighth.
Jose Bonilla picked up a season-high three hits as the Bees outhit Wisconsin 13-8. Oriental, Myers, and Lewis each had multi-hit nights as well. Lewis paced the club with three RBI.
The Bees and Rattlers close out the series tomorrow afternoon at 1:05 before returning home for a six-game homestand starting on Monday night. Come to Community Field Friday and Saturday nights, July 2 and 3, and celebrate Independence Day a little early with a pair of fireworks extravaganzas presented by Catfish Bend Casino.
