Bees Pitching Dominates in Win over Timber Rattlers

Burlington, IA. - After ending their losing streak in a win last night, the Burlington Bees (16-34,46-73) got their second win in a row after beating the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers (27-26) 3-1. Austin Krzeminski (5-5) started his second game of the season for Burlington and may have some more coming up after his great performance. Krzeminski went five innings, allowed no runs, just one hit, no walks, and threw three strikeouts. Nelson Hernandez (10-9) had a solid start of his own, but he still suffered his ninth loss after allowing two runs, six hits, throwing one walk, and six strikeouts in his five innings of work.

Williams gets Bees on the board in first at bat

Alvaro Rubalcaba started the third inning off by extending his hitting streak to five games after delivering a leadoff single to center. Rubalcaba would advance to second on a wild pitch from Hernandez, and that set up Cam Williams who hit a blooper into right field for a single, in his first at bat with the Bees to drive in Rubalcaba, giving Burlington a 1-0 lead. Williams would then get into scoring position after Orlando Martinez drew a one out walk, and Tim Millard would score Williams on a two out single to right, giving Burlington a 2-0 lead.

Wisconsin gets on the board in the sixth

After Krzeminski held the Timber Rattlers scoreless for five innings, the Bees had James Ziemba take over in relief. Ziemba started off rough by giving up a leadoff walk to Brent Diaz but did get to show off his defensive skills with Nic Pierre batting. Pierre hit a grounder towards Ziemba and he fielded it clean and threw over to Leonardo Rivas at second who then threw over to Kiki Menendez to first for a big double play. However, Darren Seferina managed to keep the inning going with a two out single, and then advanced to second after a wild pitch. Eddie Silva then continued his dominance at the plate with a double to left to score Seferina, making the score 2-1.

Williams gets run back with solo shot

Wisconsin also decided to make a pitching swap in the sixth inning, putting in Sal Biasi. It was the third appearance Biasi was making for the Timber Rattlers, but he didn't start it the way he hoped. On his second pitch, Kevin Williams Jr pulled a ball far beyond the left field wall for his fourth homerun of the season, putting Burlington ahead 3-1.

Warren and Jobst hold the lead

Austin Warren took things over in the seventh and pitched a three up three down inning and added a strikeout to his season total. Nick Jobst then came in the eighth for his second relief appearance of the season and ended up pitching the final two innings, allowing no baserunners, and threw three strikeouts to give the Bees a 3-1 win, and earning his first save with the Bees.

Williams shines in debut

Cam Williams was drafted back in the 25th round of the 2016 MLB draft and his time spent in rookie ball has seemed to have paid off. While with the Owls, Williams batted .261 and had an on base percentage of .340. In his 28 games, he finished with 24 hits, three doubles, three homeruns, and drove in nine total runs. Williams finished his debut 2-3 with an RBI. The Bees will hopefully get production like this from Williams consistently, now that Torii Hunter has been moved up.

Looking Ahead

The Bees and Timber Rattlers will wrap things up tomorrow night at 6:30 pm before the Bees hit the road to take on Beloit. Wisconsin is expected to start Scott Sunitsch, who made his debut with Wisconsin last Sunday against Beloit, threw five shutout innings, allowed three hits, one walk, and threw three strikeouts. The Bees are expected to start Mitchell Traver, who has not pitched since July 7th, as he has spent the past month on the DL. Traver is 5-6 with a 4.20 ERA in 18 starts and will hopefully be able to bounce back with no issues with injuries.
