South Bend Cubs News Release

Fort Wayne, IN: The South Bend Cubs and Fort Wayne TinCaps will have to wait until tomorrow night to play their full doubleheader originally scheduled for tonight. Due to heavy rain, game two of tonight's twin bill was postponed until Friday. However, game one did get played, with South Bend losing 5-1.

It was instant offense for the Cubs off of Fort Wayne starter Osvaldo Hernandez in the top of the 1st inning. With his second home run with South Bend, Jimmy Herron smashed a solo bomb over the left field wall to put South Bend in front 1-0.

But then the TinCaps struck against Cubs starter Brendon Little for the next four frames. With five unanswered runs, Fort Wayne went on to take the series opener. Esteury Ruiz pounded a solo home run in the bottom of the 1st to immediately tie the game after Herron's blast.

In the bottom of the 2nd, Hunter Jarmon laced a ball into the right field corner for a RBI double. The hit for Jarmon went on to score the eventual game winning run. Three more insurance runs for the TinCaps sealed the deal for their victory.

With the loss, South Bend falls to 56-65 on the season overall. With the doubleheader planned for tomorrow evening, the Cubs will have the opportunity to win the series all in one night with two against Fort Wayne.

First pitch in game one is set for 5:35 PM from Parkview Field. At the moment, right hander Javier Assad is in place to pitch game one, as he was the scheduled starter for the rain out game tonight.
