
Bees Defeat Patriots 5-3

(New Britain, CT.)- The rain held off and the New Britain Bees held on to a 5-3 win against the Division Leading Somerset Patriots as they began their 3 game series on Tuesday night at New Britain Stadium. With the win, the Bees improve to 22-21 in their inaugural 2016 season, marking the first time the team has a winning record.

The Bees got off to a quick start thanks to a home run by Jovan Rosa in the bottom of the first. The Patriots couldn't get going early, with no hits through the first 2 innings. In the second, Jonathan Roof got on base due to an error by the Somerset shortstop, Scott Kelly, then stole second, allowing for Michael Crouse's RBI single and putting the Bees up 2-0.
Matt Field's single was Somerset's first hit, coming in the 5th inning off Bees starter Josh Outman. Trayvon Robinson doubled, sending Fields to 3rd, and allowing a sacrifice fly by Yovan Gonzalez to tally the Patriots' first run. Carlos Guzman scored Somerset's second run on to a Kelly double and the game was tied at two after the fifth.
Somerset would take the lead in the sixth inning after aAharon Eggleston single and an RBI double by Bryan LaHair, but New Britain would tie the game after, an error by Somerset first baseman Bryan LaHair allowed Craig Maddox to reach, with Maddox scoring on a Jon Jones s single in the bottom of the inning.
In the seventh, the Bees took the lead after a two out single by Brandon Chaves and a walk to Rosa. Maddox lofted a ball out to center that fell in front of Robinson, allowing both Chaves and Rosa to score, and giving New Britain a 5-3 lead.
Sean Gleason subbed in for Outman in the top of the seventh, and Shawn Gilblair closed out the game for his second save of the season. The Bees bullpen did not allow a hit in 2.1 innings, striking out four Patriots.

The Bees are back tomorrow for the second game in the series. Right-hander Brian Dupra, who is 4-0 and third in the Atlantic League in ERA, will get the ball to start for the Bees opposite Darin Gorski for Somerset. It will be Winning Inning Wednesday at New Britain Stadium! The Bees will designate a specific occurrence during each inning. If the event occurs during that inning, one lucky fan will win $10,000!
