
Bees Top Patriots 5-3 in First Ever Meeting Between Two Squads

New Britain, CT - The first ever meeting between the Somerset Patriots (25-20) and New Britain Bees (22-21) went in favor of the Bees as they stung the Patriots 5-3 Tuesday evening at New Britain Stadium. It was the first of 10 meetings this month between these two newly acquainted Liberty Division foes.
"It's always fun to go someplace new and see a new stadium and face a new team," remarked third year Patriot Scott Kelly. "I like the challenge and we like the challenge. Today things just didn't work out. That's baseball. We'll clean some things up."
The Bees scored the first two runs of the game via a home run by Jovan Rosa (6) and an RBI single by Michael Crouse in the first and second innings respectively.
Josh Outman was no hitting the Patriots through four innings, but the bats came to life in the fifth inning. Yovan Gonzalez tallied an RBI on a sacrifice fly and Kelly ripped a game tying RBI single.
Somerset took a brief lead in the sixth inning when Bryan LaHair roped an RBI double
The lead would be short as Jon Jones served an RBI single in the ensuing half inning to even the contest at 3-3.
With two outs and no one on in the bottom of the seventh inning the Bees strung together a single and a walk. Then with two outs and two strikes, Craig Maddox blooped a two-run double to give the Bees a 5-3 lead which would be the final.
Steve Gleason (1-1) earned the win throwing 1.1 innings of scoreless relief. Jeremy Horst (3-2) suffered the loss, giving up 11 hits in 6.2 innings. He surrendered five runs, but two were unearned. Shawn Gilblair notched the save (2) after throwing the final frame.
