
Bees Come Back But Can't Hold On

Davenport, IA (June 30, 2009) - The Burlington opened a four-game series at Quad Cities with a 9-4 loss Tuesday night. Trailing 2-0, the Bees scored four runs in the sixth to take a two-run lead but then allowed Quad Cities to score the final seven runs of the game.
Quad Cities scored the first runs of the day scoring two runs in the bottom of the fourth inning on an Osvaldo Morales two-run homerun. The Bees scored their first runs of the day in the top of the sixth inning. In the frame, the Bees scored four runs to take a 4-2 lead. With one out, Nick Van Stratten singled and then scored on an Eric Hosmer double. Nick Francis then singled to put runners on at the corners. Jason Taylor, in his first game as a Bee this season, tied the game with a RBI single to score Hosmer. David Wood then gave the Bees the lead doubling to score Francis and Taylor.
The lead was short lived for the Bees as Quad Cities scored six runs in the bottom of the sixth to take an 8-4 lead. The River Bandits added their final run in the eighth inning.
Sam Runion got the start for the Bees. In 5.1 innings, he allowed four runs on four hits with one strikeout and four walks. He was in line for a victory when he left the game. Derrick Saito pitched .2 innings allowing four runs on three hits and was charged with his second blown save and took the loss to move to 2-6. Riquy Pena threw one scoreless inning. James Thompson also pitched one inning allowing one run but did have three strikeouts. As a staff, Bees pitchers issues seven walks in the game.
The Bees had eight hits in the game and were outhit by just one. Patrick Norris was the only Bee with more than one hit going 2-4. Wood had two RBI.
The Bees continue the four-game series at Quad Cities on Wednesday. Tim Melville is the scheduled starter with first pitch scheduled for 7:00.
