Wisconsin Timber Rattlers News Release

GRAND CHUTE, WI - Kelvin Herrera pitched five shutout innings in his 2009 debut and the Burlington Bees scored more than enough runs for him. Burlington beat the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers 6-2 on Wednesday night at Time Warner Cable Field.

Burlington (8-17) scored a pair of unearned runs in the top of the second inning. Rattler starting pitcher Cody Scarpetta gave up a single and a walk to the first two batters he faced in the frame. He would get the next two outs. But, a throwing error on what would have been the third out of the inning allowed the two runners to score.

Rattler catcher Sean McCraw doubled to start the Wisconsin half of the third inning. But, he was still there with two outs. Juan Sanchez delivered a two-out single to center, but McCraw was thrown out at the plate by Patrick Norris to end the inning.

Norris would single to start the Burlington half of the fifth inning. He would eventually score on an RBI grounder by Sean McCauley.

Herrera allowed three hits and struck out one over five scoreless innings. Herrera struck out one and did not walk a batter on the way to the win.

The Bees teed off for three doubles in the top of the sixth to run their lead to 6-0. Salvador Perez doubled in the first run. Another Rattler error put two runners on base and Antonio Jimenez doubled those to runs in for the Bees.

Wisconsin (10-15) got on the board against the Burlington bullpen in the bottom of the seventh. Brock Kjeldgaard lifted a one-out homer to left-center for his fourth dinger of the season. One out later, Edgar Trejo lined a homer to left. But, that was it for the Rattler offense for the night.

Game three of the series is Thursday night. Wisconsin has Trey Watten (1-3, 5.14) as the scheduled starting pitcher. Zach Peterson (2-1, 2.66) is the scheduled starter for the Bees. Game time is 6:35pm.
