West Michigan Whitecaps News Release

COMSTOCK PARK, MI - The great pitching of starter Matt Hoffman led the way to a bounce-back win for the West Michigan Whitecaps, 3-0, over the Beloit Snappers at Fifth Third Ballpark. With the win, the ‘Caps even the series at a game apiece and stay within a half-game of Fort Wayne in the Eastern division.

Hoffman (4-0) made just his second start of the year, and he continued to be extremely effective. The ‘Caps starter threw 7 innings of shutout ball, giving up 4 hits over that span and striking out 6 Snappers for his fourth win.

Bryan Pounds helped the Whitecaps grab an early 1-0 lead in the first with his RBI single to chase home Ben Guez who had doubled. West Michigan added to their lead in the fifth when Brandon Doulgas singled home Gustavo Nunez, and Ronnie Bourquin's groundball brought home Brent Wyatt for a 3-0 Whitecaps score.

Gustavo Nunez paced the ‘Caps attack with 2 hits; five other Whitecaps had a hit in the game.

Angel Morales was the high man in hits for the Snappers with 2, including a double and a triple.

Beloit starter Daniel Berlind took the loss. He went 4.2 innings, allowing 6 hits, 2 earned runs, and totaling 3 strikeouts.

Coming up Friday, May 8th, at Fifth Third Ballpark is ‘Magglio Ordonez Bobblehead Night'. The first 1,000 fans through the gates will get a bobble head, courtesy of Sandy Pines Campground.

Thursday night is the finale of the three game series. With the victory on Wednesday, the Whitecaps have a chance to keep their streak of series victories alive when they take the field. West Michigan will start left hander Casey Crosby (2-0) and Beloit will turn to left hander Daniel Osterbrock (0-3). First pitch is scheduled for 6:35 p.m. EST on ‘Thrifty Thursday' at Fifth Third Ballpark.
