Burlington Bees News Release

Burlington, IA (April 5, 2010) - The Burlington Bees announced the team's Opening Day roster today, just in time for tomorrow's exhibition opener against Southeastern Community College.

Two of the Royals' top ten prospects, catcher Wil Myers (No. 3) and left-handed pitcher John Lamb (No. 7), are headed to Community Field among a group featuring seven of Baseball America's top thirty Kansas City prospects. Right-handed pitchers Tyler Sample (No. 14), Kelvin Herrera (No. 18), and Matt Mitchell (No. 28), catcher Jose Bonilla (No. 21), and outfielder Hilton Richardson (No. 30) round out the team's potentially star-studded core.

Myers, 19, was a third-round draft pick last June who rocketed up prospect lists after batting .369 with five home runs and an 1.106 OPS in his 22-game pro debut with Rookie-level Burlington and Idaho Falls last summer. Only Washington's Stephen Strasburg and Seattle's Dustin Ackley, the top two overall picks, ranked higher among 2009 draftees on MLB.com's top fifty prospects list.

"The Royals have again sent us a talented team that can win a lot of games," said Bees general manager Chuck Brockett. "They're certainly capable of bringing another division title to Burlington."

Among those who saw time with the Bees in 2009 will be pitchers Kelvin Herrera, Michael Lehmann, Dusty Odenbach, Sam Runion, catchers Jose Bonilla and Juan Graterol, and Richardson. Righty Harold Mozingo was a member of the 2007 Bees.

This year's club will feature an entirely new infield, comprised of first baseman Joey Lewis, second baseman Gerard Hall, shortstops Deivy Batista and Adam Frost, and third basemen Fernando Cruz and Ryan Stovall. Joining Richardson in the outfield will be Allen Caldwell, Carlo Testa, and Rene Oriental, who will see his first professional action since 2003.

Other members of the pitching staff include Mitch Hodge, Scott Kelley, Brendan Lafferty, Bryan Paukovits, and Nick Wooley.

The Bees will face the Quad Cities River Bandits at Community Field in their regular season opener on Thursday, April 8. The contest marks the first Thirsty Thursday of the season, with fans enjoying drink specials on all beer and Pepsi products throughout the game thanks to the Mark Wrath Agency and The Mix 107.3.

Tickets to this and all other home games are moving quickly. For more information, visit GoBees.com or call the Bees front office at (319) 754-5705.
