Ten Former Kernels On Angels' Opening Day Roster

Los Angeles, CA - Ten former Cedar Rapids Kernels will be in an Angels' uniform when 2010 season begins Monday night in the Angels' home opener against the Minnesota Twins.

Angels General Manager, Tony Reagins, made the announcement on Saturday as the team broke Spring Training in Tempe, AZ.

The ten former Kernels are: pitchers Kevin Jepsen, Ervin Santana, Joe Saunders, and Scot Shields; catchers Jeff Mathis, Mike Napoli and Bobby Wilson; and infielders Erick Aybar, Howie Kendrick, and Brandon Wood.

Two other former Kernels, RHP Anthony Ortega and OF Chris Pettit, will begin the 2010 season on the 15-day disabled list.

The 2010 Cedar Rapids Kernels broke minor league Spring Training today (Monday) and are scheduled to arrive in Cedar Rapids tonight by 6:00 pm.

The annual 'Meet the Kernels Night' is scheduled for Tuesday, April 6th starting at 5:00 pm. The event is FREE to the public, as food and beverage will be available for purchase. The 2010 Kernels will mingle with the fans from 5:15 until 7:00 pm, followed by a short program at 7:15 to introduce the team and a workout under the lights starting at 7:30 pm. The event will be held rain or shine.

The Kernels open the 2010 MWL season against Beloit on Thursday, April 8th. Game time is 6:35 pm at Perfect Game Field at Veterans Memorial Stadium. Tickets are available by calling the Kernels Ticket Office at (319) 896-7560 from 10 am to 5 pm, Monday through Friday and from 10 am to 2 pm on Saturday, or order tickets on-line at www.kernels.com .
