Omaha Beef News Release
OMAHA, NE: 3/29/10 The IFL made history with it's 1st Nationally Televised game, with the Lieutenant Governor of Nebraska and the Omaha Mayor and Mayors from La Vista, Ralston, Papillion, Gretna, Blair, and Bellevue on hand as the Omaha Beef hosted the Wichita Wild. With one of the greatest crowds both in the stands and across the nation this season the Beef were unable to hold off the Wild with a 57-47 loss.
With an outstanding start in the first half the Beef would rally a 34-29 lead. The Beef worked their way down the field with a 3-yard pass from Ben Sankey to Luke McArdle would put the 1st points on the board. Wichita would answer back with a drive down field and a 1-yard pass from Dixie Wooten to Clinton Solomon the missed extra point by Dylan Pohlman would give the Beef a 7-6 lead to start the 1st quarter.
Sankey would throw a 37-yard pass to OJ Simpson that would close out the 1st quarter at a 14-6 lead for Omaha. Wooten would start the 2nd quarter with a touchdown pass to Solomon. Sankey would pass to McArdle for a 35-yard touchdown and the quarterback would go 17 of 20 for 188 yards and 5 touchdowns before things would go south in the 3rd quarter.
In the second half things would not go as the Beef had planned. With Omaha putting up zero points in the 3rd quarter the Wild would come back and regain control of the game which would put the Wichita Wild at a 43-34 lead over the Beef.
With Chad Schmigel making his first appearance at quarterback position this regular season not only would he rally the troops but Beef fans would go wild with excitement. Omaha Beef would drive down field to finish off a 17-yard pass from Schmigel to Mike Jones. But Wooten's four touchdown passes and four more rushing touchdowns in the second half would seal the deal with a Wild victory over the Beef 57-47.
