Omaha Beef News Release

The Omaha Beef are proud to announce the signing of wide receiver OJ Simpson and linebacker Spetlar Tonga. Prior to 2009 both Simpson and Tonga played for the Sioux City Bandits. Tonga played at Morningside College and Simpson played for Missouri Western in St. Joseph.

"We're honored to have Simpson and Tonga on the team this year, they're both fierce competitors and incredibly hard working," said Team President, Dakota Crow. "They also bring another layer of veteran leadership to the Beef roster."

Tonga leaves the Bandits as the all-time leader in tackles with 283 while playing 5 seasons from 2004 to 2008 after playing at Morningside College. Tonga played great defense for the Bandits in 2008 with 69 tackles, 13.5 tackles for loss, and 3.5 sacks.

Head Coach James Kerwin said, "Tonga will bring leadership and experience to a defensive philosophy that fits his style of play."

Simpson has had a highly productive season with the Bandits in 2008 with 91 catches, 958 receiving yards and 15 touchdowns. He also compiled the highest single game reception total, hauling in 13 catches on May 17, 2008 against the Bloomington Extreme.

"Simpson is explosive and will add a dimension to our offensive that was missing in our scheme last year," said Kerwin.
