Beef add UNO flavor and a linebacker

Omaha, Nebraska - The Omaha Beef of the United Indoor Football Association is pleased to announce the signing of University of Nebraska-Omaha defensive backs James I. Johnson and David Slaughter along with linebacker Kaylon Price.
Johnson, a 5'9 180 cornerback from UNO will look to earn a starting spot in the Beef secondary after earning All-North Central Conference honors during his junior and senior seasons at UNO. Johnson was an important part of a Maverick defense that lead UNO to an NCC conference title in 2004. Johnson transferred to UNO from Georgia Military College after helping lead them to the 2001 JUCO National Championship.
Slaughter, a 6' 210 defensive back joins the Beef after a successful career at UNO. Slaughter has been a big contributor on defense and special teams for the two-time NCC champion Mavericks. Slaughter brings size and speed to the Beef secondary and should make a quick transition to the indoor game.
Price, a 6'2 240 linebacker from Emporia State University will look to compete for a starting job at linebacker but may also see time on offense. Price was a key performer from his tailback position at Butler CC and Emporia State. The Beef coaching staff met Kaylon at his workout with the AFL Kansas City Brigade.
"These three young men are great additions to the Omaha Beef," stated Head Coach Robert Fuller. "James and David looked outstanding at our invite try outs and we feel they will challenge for starting jobs immediately. Kaylon raised a lot of eyebrows down in Kansas City with his unique blend of size and speed and he also had great work out for us. I don't think there is a position on the field he couldn't play."
The Omaha Beef will hold their first practice of the 2006 season on March 10th at the Omaha Sports Complex. The Omaha Sports Complex is the official practice facility of the Omaha Beef and is located on 147th and Giles. The Omaha Beef will host their season opener against the defending UIF Champion Sioux Falls Storm on March 24. Please call the Beef office at 346-2333 for ticket information.
