Portland Beavers News Release

PORTLAND, Ore. - The Portland Beavers announced before Tuesday's game that the team has released outfielder Kory De Haan.

De Haan, the only player to play in each of the Beavers' three season openers, batted .197 with two home runs and 11 RBIs in 54 games this season. The 27-year-old, however, missed more than two months of the season after having surgery on an injured left thumb.

"No one that has worn a Portland Beavers uniform over the last three years has done more for the community and made more of an impact on the fans than Kory De Haan did in his time with this club," said Mark Schuster, president and general manager of the Beavers. "We owe him a debt of gratitude and wish him the best with his career and his wonderful family."

Originally a seventh-round draft choice of the Pittsburgh Pirates in 1997, De Haan came to the San Diego Padres organization as a Major League Rule 5 selection in late 1999. He spent the majority of the 2000 campaign with the Padres, batting .204 with two homers and 13 RBIs in 90 games. He played the bulk of the 2001-2003 campaigns with the Beavers.

A native of Pella, Iowa, De Haan batted .283 with a team-best 14 triples in 2002 with Portland, pacing the Beavers in several categories including doubles (31), stolen bases (23) and runs scored (64). As a result of his solid season, the outfielder earned a September call-up with the Padres.

With 261, De Haan ranks as the leader in games played over the Beavers' three seasons and ranks among the leaders in many of the club's statistical categories for the combined period.
