COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - In just his third Triple-A game, second-year pro Khalil Greene doubled twice and drove in five runs to lead the Portland Beavers to a 9-7 win over the Colorado Springs Sky Sox Wednesday night.
Greene, the Padres' No. 2 rated prospect according to Baseball America, tied the game in the third with a two-run double and added a three-run double as part of a five-run fourth that gave the Beavers (36-31) a 9-4 lead. Greene, who tallied three hits total in the game, homered Tuesday in his Triple-A debut and now has eight RBIs in his three games with the Beavers since being transferred from Class AA Mobile on Monday.
Tagg Bozied got the scoring underway with a solo home run in the first, his seventh homer of the season.
Garrett Atkins, Luis Lopez and Ben Petrick each hit home runs for Colorado Springs.
Petrick made it interesting in the seventh with a two-run shot off Matt Hampton to cut the Beavers' lead to 9-7, but Courtney Duncan came on in the ninth to get his 17th save with the tying runs on base.
Brandon Villafuerte, making his first appearance of the season with the Beavers after being outrighted by the San Diego Padres on Monday, picked up the win. The right-hander tossed a scoreless inning-and-a-third of relief.
Denny Start took the loss for the Sky Sox (36-30).
With a single Wednesday night, Bernie Castro extended his current hitting streak to 10 games and has now reached base in 26 of his last 27 games.
NOTES: The Beavers announced before the game that right-hander J.J. Trujillo was transferred to Class AA Mobile and that right-hander Brandon Villafuerte has joined Portland after being outrighted by the San Diego Padres following a recent rehab stint at Class A Lake Elsinore ... the Beavers have now won seven of their last eight games against Colorado Springs dating back to the 2002 season.
