PORTLAND, Ore. - Three Tucson pitchers combined for nine shutout innings and Brian Gordon scored on an error in fourth as the Tucson Sidewinders (25-35) snapped an eight-game losing streak, winning 1-0 for the first time this season at PGE Park before 7,465 Saturday night.
With no one on in the fourth, Brian Gordon hit a triple to left and made it home on an errant throw to third by Bernie Castro, giving Tucson the only run they needed to get the win.
Ben Howard (4-6) got the loss, allowing no earned runs on five hits with five strikeouts in seven innings.
Phil Stockman (1-1) notched the win for the Sidewinders, giving up no runs on four hits.
NOTES...Portland SS Donaldo Mendez was called up to the San Diego Padres today
