Edmonton Trappers News Release
EDMONTON, AB - The Edmonton Trapper Baseball Club announced today that right-handed pitcher Britt Reames has been activated from the seven-day disabled list. Reames will start the second game of Sunday's doubleheader in Omaha. He was originally placed on the disabled list on May 28, retroactive to May 26, with a sprained right toe. Edmonton's roster currently stands at 22 players, 10 pitchers, two catchers, five infielders and five outfielders, plus one player (right-handed pitcher Troy Mattes) on the disabled list.
Reames, 29, is 2-6, 5.96 (48.1 IP - 32 ER) in 12 appearances (seven starts) with the Trappers this season. The native of Seneca, South Carolina began the season in the bullpen, where he was 0-2, 8.71 (10.1 IP - 10 ER) in five outings. Reames made his first start of the season against the Fresno Grizzlies on April 16 in the second game of a doubleheader at TELUS Field. He retired the first 13 batters in that outing and yielded only one hit in 5.0 innings of work. On May 20 he recorded his second win of the season, limiting Fresno to only three runs on eight hits and three walks, while fanning five in 8.0 innings of work. Reames was originally drafted by the St. Louis Cardinals in the 17th round of the 1995 draft. He was traded to the Expos on December 14, 2000, along with third baseman Fernando Tatis, in exchange for right-handed pitcher Dustin Hermanson and left-handed pitcher Steve Kline. Reames missed the entire 1997 and 1998 seasons after undergoing "Tommy John" surgery on his right elbow. He began the 2003 season with a lifetime 38-25 record in the minor leagues and a 2.79 ERA (492.2 IP - 153 ER) in 86 appearances (84 starts).
The next Trapper home game will be on Friday, June 13 when the club will take on the Sacramento River Cats. The game will begin at 7:05 PM. Tickets for all regular season home games are on sale and can be purchased through Ticketmaster at 451-8000. Twenty-game packs, ten-game packs and 2003 season tickets are also currently on sale at the Trapper General Office. For more information call 414-4450.
