Brampton Beast News Release
The Brampton Beast is proud to announce new signing of Chad Painchaud for the 2014-15 season. The 6'1 185 lbs veteran forward was a fourth round draft pick of the Atlanta Thrashers of the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
The Mississauga native started his professional hockey career with the Gwinnett Gladiators of the East Coast Hockey League playing 82 games with 67 points in two seasons. Painchaud played alongside former Beast Matt Caruana in the Bakersfield Condors' 2008-09 season where he netted 20 goals and had 44 assists in 57 games. The veteran forward played two seasons with the Victoria Salmon Kings with last year's Points per Game Leader Scott Howes. Painchaud had 117 total points in 121 games with the Salmon Kings. The winger also played with the Reading Royals and the South Carolina Stingrays of the East Coast Hockey League. Painchaud has 310 points in 327 games in his ECHL career.
Head Coach Brent Hughes describes Painchaud as a big game performer and is excited to have him join the Beast. " He's a point a game player and he's been successful wherever he's played," said Hughes. "He's a veteran player with unbelievable character that compliments our organization's beliefs."
Painchaud is no stranger to the local and surrounding communities playing two seasons with the Mississauga IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League and later two seasons with the Sarnia Sting. The right winger also spent some time in the American Hockey League playing 47 games in his career with the Chicago Wolves, Iowa Chops, Manitoba Moose and most recently the Norfolk Admirals.
"As a veteran, I think I can bring some leadership to the team and help the young players," said the new Beast signee. "It's a new challenge and I'm going try to get on the score sheet every game."
Painchaud played one year in the Central Hockey League for the Wichita Thunder during the 2012-13 season. The forward had 56 points (20 goals 36 assists) in 46 games. "I'm looking forward to winning a championship. When I played in Wichita, we made it to the finals and we lost in game seven in overtime," said Painchaud. "It was tough to be that close to winning but when I talked to Coach Hughes, he was confident that we're going to have a team that has a good chance of doing very well in the playoffs."
Painchaud is the first new Beast signing joining Cal Wild, Jason Pitton, Josh McQuade, Mike MacIsaac and Brayden Rose from last year's roster.
The Brampton Beast is holding open tryouts September 11-13 at the Powerade Centre. More details about the tryouts can be found at bramptonbeast.com.
