Brampton Beast News Release

BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - Brampton Beast forward Kevin Dufour scored two third period goals and Scott Jacklin recorded three assists as the Beast came back from down two goals to defeat the Wheeling Nailers 5-4 for their first win of the season at the Powerade Centre on Sunday afternoon.

It was a quiet first period as both the Beast and Nailers traded chances with neither team being able to find the back of the net. Brampton had the edge in shots and took an 11-8 advantage into the break.

Wheeling wouldn't waste any time to begin the second, and struck for a goal 52 seconds into the period, with Kenny Ryan getting the final touch.

Ryan, who scored twice against the Beast on Friday, continued his onslaught and added another goal to make it 2-0 Wheeling at the 8:43 mark.

Brampton would pull themselves into the game less than ten minutes later as Matt Petgrave was able to find twine at 14:46.

The Beast applied pressure in the offensive zone and Scott Jacklin found Petgrave in the slot where the defenseman turned forward made no mistake and fired the puck five hole on Nailers starter Sean Maguire to make it 2-1 in favour of Wheeling.

The Nailers came flying back and two minutes later scored their third goal of the game. Reid Gardiner got the credit for the quick strike off a faceoff in the Beast zone at 16:57 of the second period.

Brampton would head to the second intermission down a pair of goals but were determined to come away with their first victory.

The Beast knew they needed a spark to start the third and it came in the form of Kevin Dufour.

He was able to collect a rebound off a Scott Jacklin shot and roof it right under the cross bar. The power play marker came at 4:58 of the final frame, cutting the deficit to 3-2.

The Beast weren't even close to being done, as Cody Donaghey got the puck off a Thomas Ebbing faceoff win and shot a tumbling bullet into the top corner at 6:51, tying the game at 3-3.

Brampton's offensive pressure paid off as the Beast found the scoreboard again shortly thereafter. Beast defenseman Reggie Traccitto ripped a laser from the point after sustained offensive zone pressure from his teammates. That goal came at 8:57, giving the Beast their first lead of the game.

Wheeling fought back and tied the game 4-4 on a power play goal from Cody Wydo at 13:33.

With time running out in the third period, Dufour stepped up and delivered in a big way. After Brandon Marino was knocked down, Dufour cruised into the high slot and wired a beautiful shot into the back of the net with only 3:18 remaining in the third period, restoring the lead at 5-4.

The Nailers pulled Maguire in the final moments but were unable to beat Beast starting goaltender Andrew D'Agostini, who kept his team alive throughout the game, making countless acrobatic and timely saves to earn the win in his first appearance of the season.
