October 14, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL)
Brampton Beast News Release
GLENS FALLS, NEW YORK - It was a back-and-forth affair between the Brampton Beast and the Adirondack Thunder on Opening Night of the 2017-18 ECHL season for both squads. Thunder forward Ty Loney pulled Adirondack ahead for good at the 11:22 mark of the third period as Adirondack outlasted Brampton 5-4 at Cool Insuring Arena in Glens Falls on Saturday night. Beast forwards Thomas Ebbing and Jordan Boucher each recorded their first professional goals while Brandon Marino and Chris Leveille rounded out the scoring for the Beast. The Thunder jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first period thanks to a goal from Troy Bourke at 3:10 but the Beast quickly responded. With the Beast on a power play, Ebbing took advantage of some crisp passing and roofed home his first pro goal at 5:27 to tie the game. The Thunder charged back with goals from Eric Neiley and Ty Loney to carry a 3-1 lead into the first intermission. The Beast came out flying to start the second period but Thunder starting goaltender Nic Riopel was up to the task until the 18:07 mark, when Boucher cut in alone and slid the puck along the ice and beat the netminder for his first professional tally, cutting the deficit to one heading into the third period. Beast captain Brandon Marino tied the game early in the third off a great pass frm Yannick Veilleux in tight at 2:56 but the Beast celebration was short lived. Bourke's second of the game 19 seconds later quickly restored the Thunder lead. The Beast continued to press and tied the game again at 10:46 as Chris Leveille sent a shot from long range that eluded Riopel. Once again, the Thunder pulled ahead quickly, this time for good, as Loney beat Beast starting goaltender Michael McNiven at 11:22. NOTES: The Beast finished the game 1-for-8 on the man advantage and 7-for-8 on the penalty kill. Brampton outshot Adirondack 36-34. The Beast now head home for their Home Opener tomorrow, Sunday, October 15 at 2:00PM at the Powerade Centre against the Adirondack Thunder.
