Beast and Jackals to Invade Kingston, Ontario for Preseason Clash
September 20, 2016 - ECHL (ECHL)
Brampton Beast News Release
BRAMPTON, ONTARIO - The Brampton Beast, ECHL affiliate of the St. John's IceCaps and Montreal Canadiens, announce today that the club has added another exhibition game to the preseason schedule prior to the start of the 2016-17 ECHL regular season.
On Tuesday, October 4 at 6:00 PM, the Beast will host the Elmira Jackals in a neutral-site exhibition game at the Fine Line Arena inside the INVISTA Centre in beautiful Kingston, Ontario.
This exhibition game is an event that many inside the Beast office and dressing room are looking forward to. Not only will this game be the first ever exhibition game played by the club, but the team has several deep connections within the City of Kingston.
"We are thrilled to play our first ever Brampton Beast exhibition game in Kingston," said Beast President and General Manager Cary Kaplan.
"It was important for us to have our game in Kingston. Our roots run deep in that city. Majority owner Gregg Rosen and his family call Kingston home and are pillars of that community. Gregg is also the former owner of the Kingston Voyageurs. It was important to us to be able to put this game in Kingston and we look forward to an exciting crowd and a great game against Elmira."
The Kingston connection is most prevalent behind the Beast bench, as both of the team's coaches, including Head Coach Colin Chaulk and Assistant Coach Peter Goulet, have had their hockey careers deeply impacted by the hockey hotbed of Kingston.
"Kingston is where I played in the OHL in the late 90's," said Beast Head Coach Colin Chaulk. "We always had competitive teams in Kingston. I really loved the city. My wife attended Queens University. Our Assistant Coach and our owner both live in Kingston. This will be a great night."
"It's where I started my coaching career," said Goulet, who also serves as the General Manager of the Kingston Voyageurs. "Our owner here in Brampton owned the Voyageurs for five years and is now the owner of the Beast. It will be a great night for him for sure."
The game against the Jackals will be the first of three preseason contests ahead of the upcoming season. The club will head to Kalamazoo to face the Wings on Sunday, October 9. One day later, the Beast will conclude their preseason schedule on Monday, October 10 as they travel to Fort Wayne to play the Komets.
Kaplan believes that playing these three preseason games ahead of the upcoming 2016-17 season could be a difference-maker in helping the team get off to a good start when the season kicks off against the Wheeling Nailers on October 15.
"It is important for us to get off to a rapid start," he said. "We think we were hampered in the past in not having exhibition games. As a result, this year playing Fort Wayne, Kalamazoo and Elmira, our entire team will be game-ready when we open on October 15."
Tickets to the Kingston exhibition game will cost $10 for adults and $8 for children under 13 years of age. For more information or to get your tickets, please contact Peter Goulet at 613-889-0902 or at pgoulet@bramptonbeast.com.
