Wichita Stealth News Release
Wichita, Kan. - The Wichita Stealth announced today that Jonathan Beasley has been named the starting quarterback for Saturday night's game versus the Laredo Law.
"We came into camp with two quarterbacks who we felt were both capable of being #1," said Stealth head coach Sean Ponder. "We haven't been producing offensively the last couple of weeks and it was time to make a change and see if someone else can get a fire lit under these guys."
Beasley has seen limited action this year for the Stealth. He has only attempted one pass and has rushed the ball one time for two yards.
Beasley was a two-year starter at Kansas State and led the Wildcats to two bowl victories (1999 Holiday Bowl and the 2000 Cotton Bowl). He led Kansas State to a 21-4 record in games that he started throughout his collegiate career. He was named All-Big XII conference third-team pick by the league's coaches adding honorable mention from the Associated Press. Beasley was named an offensive team captain during the 1999 and 2000 season.
The Stealth also announced that quarterback Aaron Sparrow has left the team due to personal reasons and they have placed on re-assignment, defensive specialist Charles Johnson and offensive specialist Jonathan Jackson.
In other personnel moves, the Stealth have traded future considerations to the Arkansas Twisters for wide receiver/defensive back Norman Mason (5-10, 185, Kentucky). This will be Mason's fourth season in af2. He has spent time with the Tennessee Valley Vipers, Augusta Stallions, Cape Fear Wildcats, Macon Knights, and the Louisville Fire. In his af2 career, he has caught 145 passes for 1623 yards and 30 touchdowns. Defensively, he has compiled 88 tackles and ten interceptions.
