Wolves Fall Short Of Guarantee

Last Wednesday Manchester head coach Rik Richards guaranteed the Wolves would beat the Birmingham Steeldogs granted the fans pack the seats. The Wolves ended up falling three points shy with a 52-49 defeat Friday night. The loss, which ended the Wolves' two-game win streak, was a hard-fought down-to-the-wire contest, in front of an emotional crowd of 7,616 at the Verizon Wireless Arena. Manchester saw itself in control at the beginning of the fourth quarter 42-37. However, the Wolves allowed two late fourth quarter touchdowns by Birmingham at the 13:28 and 6:43 marks, which put the Steeldogs ahead for good at 52-42. Manchester scored a late touchdown with 47.8 seconds left on a 12-yard pass from QB Chris Sanders to WR/DB Reggie Robinson. The Wolves' defense held strong against the Steeldogs until a costly fourth down penalty sealed their fate. Sanders finished his third straight game without an interception, completing 20-of-36 passes for a season-high 301 yards. George Williams led the receiving corps with nine receptions for a season-high 160 yards. Manchester's Josh Liddell also stood out in the loss for the Wolves, earning the ARMY Ironman of the Game award. Liddell's totals included a 16-yard touchdown reception in addition to two total tackles and one sack on defense.

Wolves' fans in general were not too happy about the loss, but two lucky Wolves season ticket holders felt a little better when they found out they had just won an all-inclusive, one-night trip to Boston. Thanks to Quality Insulation of Nashua, Manchester residents Brian McCawley and Melodie Frazer were randomly selected as the winners of the Boston getaway, which includes limo transportation, hotel stay, dinner, and tickets to a Red Sox game.

Wolves Become Partner In Panteli-Kotrotsios Memorial Charity Golf Tournament

The Wolves have joined the growing list of major partners who participate in the Panteli-Kotrotsios Charity Golf Tournament. The annual event, now in its 28th year, will be held Friday, June 4 at Derryfield Country Club in Manchester. The tournament, hosted by Wolves managing partner and former NFL player Steve Schubert, benefits youth sports throughout New Hampshire. Since its inception, the event has raised over $500,000. Other major partners of the tournament include Manchester Harley Davidson, C.B. Sullivan, Coca-Cola and American Airlines.

Doctor's Notes

The Wolves may have hurt their pride in the team's most recent loss to Birmingham, but nothing major on the physical side was reported. That's good news for the Wolves, who are the healthiest they've been all season. Manchester was also excited to see former New England Patriot Vernon Crawford back in action against the Steeldogs. Crawford, who had been out for the past five weeks due to a broken right hand, played well in defeat, registering two total tackles, including one for a loss.

Wolves players currently on the injured list are as follows:

Mel Long (WR/DB) - ankle - long term injured reserve

Josh Ison (FB/LB) - torn ACL - long term injured reserve
