FRIDAY, MAY 21
Birmingham Steeldogs 52, MANCHESTER WOLVES 49 (Attendance: 7,616)
MANCHESTER, N.H. - Marlon Bush had two sacks and a forced fumble to earn the ADT Defensive Player of the Game award and lead the Steeldogs (6-1) to a victory over the Wolves (3-4) Friday night at Verizon Wireless Arena. Manchester entered the fourth quarter leading 42-37, but two Birmingham touchdowns put them ahead for good. Chris Sanders led the Wolves, completing 20-of-36 passes for 315 yards and no interceptions. Detronn Harris caught six passes for 98 yards and four touchdowns.
Columbus Wardogs 54, BOSSIER-SHREVEPORT BATTLE WINGS 50 (Attendance: 2,161)
BOSSIER CITY, La. - Kyle Rowley completed 21-of-38 passes for 304 yards and six touchdowns as the Wardogs (2-5) defeated the Battle Wings (2-6) Saturday night at the Century Tel Center. Rowley threw two touchdowns to Adrian Cockfield, who added to his league-leading receptions total by hauling in six catches for 76 yards. Teammate Terrence Samuel led the Wardogs with six catches for 122 yards. For the Battle Wings, Sherard Poteete went 14-for-25 for 174 yards, but was picked off twice. The win snapped a five-game losing streak for the Wardogs.
SATURDAY, MAY 22
ALBANY CONQUEST 56, Macon Knights 37 (Attendance: 4,957)
ALBANY, N.Y. - D Bryant threw for six touchdowns while rushing for another to lead the Albany Conquest (3-4) over the Macon Knights (2-5) Saturday night at the Pepsi Arena. Tony Locke caught five touchdown passes while accumulating 139 yards receiving. For the Knights, Jamaal Garman caught six passes for 102 yards and one touchdown reception and returned a kickoff back 55 yards for a touchdown. Albany scored the first 21 points of the game to take an early lead they never relinquished. The Conquest have won three straight games.
WILKES-BARRE/SCRANTON 48, Cape Fear Wildcats 41 (Attendance: 5,763)
WILKES-BARRE, Pa. - J.R. Thomas caught nine passes for 101 yards and two touchdowns as the Pioneers (6-1) topped the Wildcats (3-3) Saturday night at Wachovia Arena. Tim Hicks threw for three touchdowns and ran for another. Matt Burnstein caught ten passes for the Wildcats for 123 yards and two touchdowns. Mitch Galloway also caught two touchdowns for the Wildcats. But Kevin Nagle's one-yard run for the first score of the fourth quarter stretched the Pioneers' lead to two possessions putting them in the drivers seat to the victory.
Tulsa Talons 61, ARKANSAS TWISTERS 53 (Attendance: 9,277)
NORTH LITTLE ROCK, Ark. - Robert Reed pulled in six catches for 112 yards and four touchdowns to pace the Talons (4-3) as they defeated the Twisters (1-6) at Alltel Arena. Tulsa took control of the game when they scored on the last possession of the first half, and then the first two possessions of second half to take a two-possession lead. Bob Bees threw seven touchdowns for the Talons. Arkansas' Ted Williams threw four of his six touchdowns to Ted Alflord, who has 142 receiving yards on the night.
Louisville Fire 59, GREEN BAY BLIZZARD 54 (Attendance: 4,544)
GREEN BAY, Wis. - Matt Sauk threw for 362 yards and six touchdowns to lead the Fire (5-2) over the Blizzard (3-4) Saturday night at the Resch Center. James Scott and Anthony Payton both caught ten Sauk passes with Scott pulling three in for touchdowns and Payton pulling in two. Payton also recorded an interception on the evening. Joe Rivard of the Blizzard had 4.5 tackles, a forced fumble, and an interception. Robert Garth caught four passes for two touchdowns and 108 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown reception.
Florida Firecats 53, TENNESSEE VALLEY VIPERS 30 (Attendance: 4,833)
HUNTSVILLE, Ala. - Cainon Lamb rushed for one touchdowns and caught another to help the Firecats (4-3) to a 53-30 win over the Vipers (5-2) Saturday night at the Von Braun Center. Florida QB Ken Mastrole completed 10-of-21 passes for 115 yards and four touchdowns. In addition to the touchdown he threw to Lamb, Mastrole tossed two to Anthony Snead and one to Magic Benton. Vipers QB Josh Kellett went 18-for-33 with one interception, passing for 197 yards and three touchdowns. Two of those went to Ronney Daniels, who led all receivers with eight catches for 134 yards. The Firecats snapped the Vipers 11-game regular season home win streak, becoming the first team to beat the Vipers at home in the regular season since Macon on July 27, 2002.
OKLAHOMA CITY YARD DAWGZ 53, Wichita Stealth 25 (Attendance: 7,554)
OKLAHOMA CITY - Al Hunt hauled in six passes for a game-high 137 yards and four touchdowns as the Yard Dawgz (5-2) downed the Stealth (5-2) 53-25 to grab first place in the Southwest Division Saturday night at the Ford Center. Hunt, who was named the game's Ironman, added six tackles (5UA-2AT) and a pass defended to his totals. QB Craig Strickland was named the Baby Ruth Offensive Player of the Game, completing 17-of-29 passes for 240 yards and seven touchdowns. For the Stealth, Aaron Sparrow went 19-for-39 with no interceptions for 227 yards and one touchdown. The Stealth also got rushing tallies from Anthony Griffin (2 rushing TDs) and Daren Williams (1 rushing TD) in the game.
Laredo Law 42, RIO GRANDE VALLEY 40 (Attendance: 5,600)
HIDALGO, TEXAS - Rocky Perez threw a five-yard touchdown to Trey Merkins as time expired to lift the Law (2-5) to a 42-40 win over the Dorados (3-4) Saturday night at Dodge Arena. Perez, who earned Baby Ruth Offensive Player of the Game, was 14-of-34 for 212 yards and five touchdowns on the night. He also rushed for one more touchdown. Martino Theus led the Law receivers with five catches for 65 yards, and five different receivers tallied receiving touchdowns. Dorados gunslinger Abel Gonzalez went 17-for-29 for 168 yards and five touchdowns. He threw two touchdowns each to McKinley Bowie and Manwell Talbert. Both teams combined for nine sacks on the night, with Rio Grande Valley's five leading the way.
Memphis Xplorers 72, BAKERSFIELD BLITZ 51 (Attendance: 4,240)
BAKERSFIELD, Calif. - Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game Brian Jones totaled nine touchdowns in the Xplorers (4-3) 72-51 win over the Blitz (4-3) Saturday night at Centennial Garden. Jones was nearly perfect by air, going 22-of-27 for 298 yards with six touchdowns and no interceptions. On the ground he rushed seven times for 31 yards and three additional touchdowns. Jones' favorite target downfield was Kevin Prentiss, who amasses 125 yards and three touchdowns on 11 receptions. Bakersfield's Chad Elliott was 17-of-31 for 177 yards and four touchdowns. The Blitz also received three rushing tallies from Nick Onaindia, who had eight yards on three carries.
SAN DIEGO RIPTIDE 62, Quad City Steamwheelers 52 (Attendance: 3,426)
SAN DIEGO - Kane Claunch earned baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game honors by completing 18-of-29 passes for 302 yards and eight touchdowns as the Riptide (2-5) stunned the Steamwheelers (6-2) 62-52 Saturday night at the San Diego Sports Arena. Claunch, who set a team record with his eight touchdown passes, also rushed for another score. Nakoa McElrath hauled in six catches for 144 yards and a team record five touchdowns to lead the Riptide. Steamwheelers QB Ronnie Gordon went 26-for-41 for 321 yards and five touchdowns, and he rushed six times for 13 yards and another two scores. Jeff Hewitt and Tim Dodge led the Steamwheelers receiving corps. Each grabbed 11 receptions on the night. Hewitt had 148 yards and one touchdown, while Dodge totaled 105 yards and two touchdowns.
HAWAIIAN ISLANDERS 54, Central Valley Coyotes 48 (Attendance: 4,211)
HONOLULU - Darnell Arceneaux (Baby Ruth Real Deal Offensive Player of the Game) passed for five touchdowns and rushed for two more to lead the Islanders (5-2) past the Coyotes (1-6) 54-48 Saturday night at Neal Blaisdell Arena. Arceneaux completed 13-of-22 passes for 239 yards, while rushing for 24 yards on five carries. Two of his touchdowns went to little brother Anthony, who led the Islanders with five catches for 143 yards. Anthony also had 2.5 tackles (2UA-1AT) and a pass defended to earn Ironman of the Game honors. For the Coyotes, Kyle Bigg completed 31-of-44 passes for 271 yards with five touchdowns and one interception. Kenyatte Morgan caught four of those touchdowns on 8 receptions for 72 yards. The Islanders are 3-0 at home this season.
