Hershey Bears News Release
The HERSHEY BEARS Hockey Club will host the Wilkes- Barre/Scranton Penguins Tuesday in Game 7 of the East Division Finals, just the second Game 7 ever hosted by the BEARS at GIANT Center. The winner advances to the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals. Michal Neuvirth earned his second Calder Cup playoff shutout Sunday in Game 6 as HERSHEY won 3-0 to even the series at three games apiece. Andrew Gordon scored the game-winning goal in Game 6.
Tickets for Game 7 between the BEARS and Penguins are on sale now at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911.
Seventh Heaven: The BEARS will play just the club's sixth Game 7 since 1989 and the club's second ever at GIANT Center Tuesday night. HERSHEY has won three straight Game 7's dating back to the 1997 Mid Atlantic Division Finals against Philadelphia, also winning the 1997 Southern Conference Finals over Springfield and the 2006 Eastern Conference Finals against Portland in seven. The Chocolate and White lost the 1994 Southern Division Finals to Cornwall and the 1989 Southern Division Finals to Adirondack in seven games. HERSHEY and Wilkes-Barre/Scranton have never played a Game 7 against one another.
Piling up the points: Left Wing Chris Bourque is tied for third in the league in scoring this playoff year, posting 11 points on one goal and 10 assists. Bourque also possesses the longest point streak by an AHL player in the 2009 Calder Cup playoffs. The Boston, MA native picked points in eight straight games to begin the postseason through Game 4 of the current East Division Final series.
Elsewhere in the Conference: The Worcester Sharks and Providence Bruins play Game 5 of the Atlantic Division Finals Monday night at Dunkin Donuts Center in Providence. The series is currently tied at two games apiece, with the winner of the series to face either HERSHEY or Wilkes-Barre/Scranton in the 2009 Eastern Conference Finals. Game 6 will be Wednesday night at the DCU Center in Worcester, with Game 7 if necessary set for Thursday in Rhode Island.
Washington update: The Capitals face elimination Monday in the Eastern Conference Semi-Finals, trailing the Pittsburgh Penguins three games to two.
