Last Wednesday, the Manitoba Moose cruised to a 3-2 win over the Grand Rapids Griffins, securing the first ever four game series sweep in franchise history. With the win, the Moose officially claimed the North Division title. Currently on a seven-game winning streak, the Moose await their opponent for the Western Conference Finals. Games 1 and 2, along with Games 6 and 7 (if necessary) will be played at the MTS Centre, with the series opening on May 15 and 16.
Monday, May 4, 2009: Manitoba 3, Grand Rapids 1
The Manitoba Moose took a commanding 3-0 series lead over the Grand Rapids Griffins last Monday night after finishing on top of a 3-1 decision in front of 2541 spectators. Matt Pope notched his second goal of the playoffs, Alexandre Bolduc earned the game-winner and Jason Jaffray sealed the deal with an empty-netter, his third point of the game. Goaltender Cory Schneider's 23 saves puts the Moose on a six-game post-season winning streak.
Wednesday, May 6, 2009: Manitoba 3, Grand Rapids 2
For the first time in franchise history, the Manitoba Moose swept a series in four-games beating the Grand Rapids Griffins 3-2 on Wednesday to claim the North Division title. Jason Krog, Guillaume Desbiens and Mark Cullen all notched goals from Manitoba while Cory Schneider stopped 30 shots in the team's seventh straight victory.

SPECIAL TEAM SUMMARY: For the third time this playoff run, the Moose scored more than one powerplay goal, notching two against the Griffins on May 6/09. The Moose are now 10-53 on the power play, at 18.87 per cent. Conversely, Manitoba has been outstanding on the penalty kill, only allowing three goals on 33 opportunities. The Moose are 90.9 per cent on the PK, good enough for second in the league.
STELLAR ON THE BACK-END: Goaltender Cory Schneider has only allowed 17 goals on 267 shots so far this Calder Cup run. Schneider has come up with a .936 save percentage and 1.69 GAA in his 2009 AHL postseason thus far. He has appeared in all 10 playoff games and is currently on a seven-game winning streak. In his playoff history, all six of Schneider's losses have been by only one goal, and he has never allowed more than three goals in a playoff loss.
Upcoming Opponent
The Manitoba Moose await their opponent for the Western Conference Finals. Games 1 and 2, along with Games 6 and 7 (if necessary) will be played at the MTS Centre, with the series opening on May 15 and 16. The dates for Games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary) will be determined at the conclusion of the West Division Final between the Milwaukee Admirals and Houston Aeros.
