
Bears down Binghamton for 44th win

The BEARS took over sole possession of first place Sunday, and also became the first team in the American Hockey League this season to reach the 100-point mark with a 3-1 win over the Binghamton Senators. The victory gave HERSHEY a one point edge over second place Norfolk and a four point edge over third place Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
Binghamton took advantage of a short-handed situation by scoring the only goal of the first period a man down. Ryan Vesce scored on a breakaway at 13:41 of the first from Andrew Ebbett and Charlie Cook to hoist the B-Sens into a 1-0 lead. HERSHEY outshot Binghamton 13-10 in the first 20 minutes, but trailed in the game 1-0.
The teams battled through the second period, with the BEARS scoring late to even the score. Dave Steckel tipped a Tyler Sloan left point shot at the 16:39 mark to tie the game at 1-1. The goal for Steckel was his 28th of the season. Into the third period, Stephen Werner added an insurance goal for the BEARS with his second goal of the season from Steckel and Troy Milam. Frederic Cassivi won his 18th game of the season for HERSHEY, making 28 saves.
Notes: The game marked Binghamton's final game in HERSHEY in 2006-07. The BEARS will travel to the southern tier for games April 4 and April 14 HERSHEY'S next game will be Friday night in Wilkes-Barre against the Penguins at 7:05 p.m. The next home game for Bruce Boudreau's club will be Saturday night against the Bridgeport Sound Tigers at 7:00 p.m., with tickets available at the GIANT Center box office, or by calling (717) 534-3911. The BEARS are five points shy of the team's franchise record for points in a season with ten games remaining.
