Lake Erie Crushers News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI. - The Lake Erie Crushers, presented by Mercy, saw an early lead disappear on Thursday night as the Traverse City Beach Bums stifled the Crushers offense and captured a 4-1 win in the series finale.
Lake Erie got out to a 1-0 lead in the first inning against Beach Bums starter Reinaldo Lopez (7-3). An RBI single by Cody Lenahan scored Aaron Hill making it 1-0. Lenahan now has 24 RBIs on the season.
Traverse City tied the game in the second inning against Alex Romero (6-5). A leadoff walk to Noah McGowan led to the run after he scored on a wild pitch.
The big hit in the game came in the third inning after Romero walked Steve Lohr with two outs. Former Crusher, Connor Oliver stepped in and hit a two-run home run, giving Traverse City a 3-1 lead. That was the sixth home run of the season for Oliver.
Romero went five innings while allowing three runs on six hits. He issued three walks in the loss. Lopez tossed six innings for Traverse City. He was charged with one run on five hits.
Lake Erie reliever Louis Cohen went two innings and allowed a run in the sixth inning. Luke Watts pitched a scoreless inning for the Crushers.
Lake Erie loaded the bases in the ninth inning but could not score and the Beach Bums won by the score of 4-1. John Michael Knighton picked up his 11th save of the season. Lake Erie drops to 35-28 and Traverse City improves to 31-31 with the win.
The game also featured an 18 minute rain delay that took place in the sixth inning.
