Traverse City Beach Bums News Release

SCHAUMBURG, IL - The Traverse City Beach Bums'(41-47) had a seven run lead heading into the last three innings and were able to hang on against the Schaumburg Boomers(43-46), winning by a final score of 9-7, and taking the first two games of this weekend's three game series.

Will Kengor picked up the first run of the game as he blasted a two-out solo homer over the right field wall, his 11th of the season, in the first inning. In the second, Alec Olund led off with a walk then Ryan Kemp singled to center field. Josh Hauser followed with his own single, scoring Olund and moving Kemp to second. Orlando Rivera hit his own RBI single, scoring Kemp and advancing Hauser to third. Isaac Benard then drove in Hauser on a sacrifice fly for a 4-0 Bums lead.

With an out in the third, Olund doubled to right field and moved to third on a wild pitch. After Hauser walked, Orlando Rivera hit his third triple of the season, driving in two more runs for a six run advantage. Schaumburg picked up a couple of runs in the fifth on a two-run single by Zack Weigel but Traverse City extended the lead in the sixth. Orlando Rivera and Kengor walked then Luke Lowery cleared the bases with his ninth homer of the season, giving the Beach Bums a 9-2 lead.

Schaumburg was able to get three runs back in the seventh inning when Nick Oddo doubled in two runs then Weigel scored on a throwing error. In the ninth, Weigel hit a two-run homer over the right field wall, pulling Schaumburg within two. They would then put the tying runs on base and bring the potential winning run to the plate, but Dylan Jones' fly ball to Orlando Rivera sealed the game and the series for the Beach Bums.

Ken Knudsen picked up his second consecutive win on the mound to improve his record to 7-2. He went five innings, giving up two runs on five hits and three walks, and struck out four. Hendry Rodriguez suffered the loss in a short outing of two and two-thirds innings. He allowed six runs on five hits and five walks, dropping his record to 0-1.
