Beach Bums Suffer Series Sweep against Normal

TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(31-40) fell behind early 3-0 and lost 9-2, dropping all three games this weekend to the Normal Cornbelters(37-32)
Normal took an the lead with three runs in the top of the first inning. Derrick Loveless had an RBI single and Nick Cain drove in two with a single to highlight the inning. With one out in the bottom of the inning, Isaac Benard singled to right then scored when Will Kengor hit his league-leading 25th double of the season, pulling Traverse City within two.
In the fourth, Michael Baca, Santiago Chirino, and Loveless hit three straight RBI doubles, then Sean Hurley hit an RBI single for a 7-1 Normal lead. In the sixth, Alexis Rivera drew a one out walk then scored on a Noah McGowan double, pulling Traverse City within five. In the eighth, the Cornbelters got RBI singles by Cain and Justin Fletcher, for a 9-2 lead.
Jacinto Garcia picked up the win, improving his record to 5-2. He went six innings and allowed two runs on seven hits and three walks. Ken Knudsen, in a spot start, suffered his first loss of the season to drop to 5-1. He went three and a third innings, giving up seven runs on six hits and two walks.
On Wednesday night, the Beach Bums continue the current six game home stand against the Schaumburg Boomers, as they'll play a doubleheader. First pitch for game one is scheduled for 5:05pm and Tom Willms will have the call, starting with the Budweiser pregame show, at 4:45.
