
Beach Bums Offense Dampened by CornBelters

Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums(23-31) could only muster two runs on six hits against the Normal Cornbelters(26-29), falling by a final score of 5-2.
In the first, Normal took an early 1-0 lead on a Nolan Meadows RBI single. The Beach Bums responded in the second, as Alexis Rivera led off with a single then stole second. Nick Murphy then laced a double down the left field line to plate Rivera and tie the game. After a Zach Files fly ball moved Murphy to third, Arby Fields reached on an infield single, and John Montgomery got on via a fielder's choice, loading the bases. Brook Clark then grounded to third, scoring Murphy, and giving the Bums the lead.
The Cornbelters tied the game up at two in the third on a sacrifice fly by Aaron Dudley. It took until the seventh but they took the lead again at 3-2 when Craig Lepre grounded in a run. In the top of the 9th, and after a 24 minute rain delay, Normal extended their advantage to three with a two run triple by Santiago Chirino.
Augie Gallardo had a good start for the Beach Bums, going six and 1/3 innings, allowing two earned runs on four hits and a walk, but he falls to 3-5 with tonight's loss. Normal reliever Chad Gendron allowed a hit and struck out two for his first win of the season, improving to 1-1. Shawn Blackwell hurled two perfect innings, striking out four, for his ninth save of the season.
Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums and Normal Cornbelters continue this three game set with the middle game. Reinaldo Lopez gets the call for the Beach Bums and Sixto Torres starts for Normal. First pitch is scheduled for 7:05pm and the voice of the Beach Bums, Tom Willms, goes on the air at 6:45pm with the Budweiser pre-game show, on 101.9- The Bay.
