Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums announced today that the trade with Gateway for outfielder Jeff Vincent has been completed. The Beach Bums will receive RHP Jeremy Dow from the Grizzlies as the Player to be Named.
Dow is a native of Sunfield, Mich., and pitched in 14 games for the West Division leaders this season, making four starts. He was 1-1 with a 6.00 ERA in innings of work while posting 43 strikeouts. In his four starts, Dow posted an ERA of 3.84 and recorded his lone win over Windy City, striking out eight and allowing an unearned run on July 8.
Dow, 23, began his professional career with the Kalamazoo Kings in 2006. He pitched in seven games, making four starts, and posted a 2-2 record to go along with a 2.55 ERA. He pitched collegiately at Grand Valley State University after beginning his career at Michigan State. Dow was dominant for the Lakers, finishing with a 17-2 career mark in two seasons to go with 177 strikeouts. He was the 2006 Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference Pitcher of the Year following a 12-0 senior campaign, tying the school record for single season victories. He is expected to join the Beach Bums by mid-week.
The Beach Bums also announced the addition of another pitcher, rookie Matt Dillard from Eastern Michigan University.
Dillard, a 6-7 native of Waterford, Mich., was pitching in the recently folded New York State League for the Utica Brewmasters. No stats are available from the NYSL. During his senior campaign at Eastern Michigan, Dillard made 20 appearances and was 0-3 with a 4.63 ERA. He struck out 17 hitters in 25 innings of work while allowing only five walks.
Dillard, 22 years old, will join the Beach Bums bullpen. With the additions of Dow and Dillard, the Beach Bums roster now stands at 24. Traverse City also announced a change on the coaching staff as recently retired pitcher Robbie McClellan will take over as the Bullpen Coach, a position once occupied by David Beigh, who left to join the Lafayette (Ind.) Police Department. Bullpen Catcher Nick Smith has left the team.
The Beach Bums will host Evansville again tonight at Wuerfel Park in a 7:05 pm game. RHP Phil Tognetti (1-2, 3.80) will start for the Beach Bums.
