Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, Mich. - The Traverse City Beach Bums have added depth to its pitching staff with the signing of right-hander James Ball out of William Woods University.
"Ball has the bulldog mentality that I'm always looking for," said Jason Wuerfel, Beach Bums' Director of Baseball Operations. "He's an undersized guy but he attacks hitters like he's the biggest guy on the field. He throws from multiple arm angles and has a lot of deception. More than anything, he has a high baseball IQ and knows how to use what he has to get hitters out."
Ball is the Owls career leader in ERA with a 2.21 mark during his two seasons at William Woods, helping lead the team to a pair of berths in the NAIA National Tournament and back-to-back school record 39-win seasons. In 2015, he went 8-4 with nine saves and a 2.31 ERA. He struck out 78 batters while walking just 22 and held opponents to a .205 average in 74.0 innings of work. His 35 appearances set a school record.
In 2014, the Hillsboro, Mo. native went 5-1 with 12 saves and a 2.11 ERA. For his career, he struck out 135 batters in 142.1 innings of work. He ranks second on the Owls all-time saves list with 21.
The Traverse City Beach Bums are the 2015 Frontier League Champions and will be playing their 11th season of professional baseball in Northern Michigan starting May 2016. All home games are played at Wuerfel Park, a state of the art ballpark located in Blair Township, Mich. The Beach Bums business offices are open from 8:30 am to 5:30 pm Monday through Friday. Sponsorships, Season Tickets, Group packages, patio tables and suites are all available for the 2016 season.
