
Beach Bums Fall in Extras

EVANSVILLE, IN - The Traverse City Beach Bums(27-37), in a back-and-forth contest, dropped game one of this weekend's three game set to the Evansville Otters(35-28), 9-8 in ten innings.
The first inning went by quickly with both teams going down in order but Evansville got on the board in the second thanks to an RBI double to by Christopher Riopedre. After getting shutout on Thursday night, the Bums' bats broke through in the top of the third. Kendall Patrick reached on a single with one away. Jeff DeBlieux then bunted his way on and Marcos Derkes walked to load the bases. Ryan Bottger drove in the Beach Bums first run when he slipped a single to right, scoring Patrick. With the bases still loaded, Steven Patterson cleared the bases with a double to center, scoring three runs, and Traverse City had a 4-1 lead. Jose Vargas then rocketed a two-run homer over the centerfield wall, extending the lead to five.
The Otters responded in the bottom of the inning when Chris Breen hit an RBI double, Nik Balog hit an RBI single, then Denzel Richardson ripped a two-run homer, his third of the year, and the Bums lead was down to one. In the fifth, Riopedre tied the game with an infield single, then Yamaguchi walked with the bases loaded the give the Otters a 7-6 lead. Rolando Gomez led off this sixth inning by hitting his fourth long ball of the season to double to Evansville lead.
With one out in the top of the ninth, Steven Patterson singled into centerfield. Jose Vargas stepped up and hit the first pitch he saw over the left field wall for his second of the game and ninth of the year to tie the game at 8. In the tenth, and runners at first and second, Josh Allen hit an RBI single to win the game for Evansville.
After blowing the save in the ninth, Randy McCurry stayed in for the tenth to earn the win and improve to 3-2. Luke Barker also pitched two innings but gave up the winning run and drops to 1-4 with the loss.
Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums and the Evansville Otters play game two of this three game series. Luc Rennie takes the hill for Evansville and Tucker Simpson goes for the Beach Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35pm and Tom Willms will have the Miller Lite Pre-Game Show at 7:15pm, on 101.9- The Bay.

The Beach Bums Box Office & Gift Shop are now open with non-gameday hours of 10am to 6pm Monday through Friday, 10am to 4pm on Saturday. Wuerfel Park is closed on non-gameday Sundays.
