Beach Bums Drop Series Opening Game in River City

O'FALLON, MO -Traverse City Beach Bums(2-2) could only put together two hits as they fall to the River City Rascals(1-2), by a final score of 7-0.

In the first inning, River City got on the board with a two-run home run by Zach Lavy. Taylor Love grounded in a run in the second then Clint Freeman hit an RBI single and Gerrion Grim hit a sacrifice fly to take it a 5-0 deficit for the Beach Bums. Kevin Suarez grounded home a run in the fourth then scored on a wild pitch to increase their lead to seven.

From there, the pitching took over for both teams. Scott Grist hurled seven innings of shutout ball, allowing a hit and a walk, while facing the minimum, to get the win. Adam Cornwell suffered the loss for Traverse City, going three innings and allowing five runs on seven hits and a walk, to fall to 0-1. One bright spot for the Beach Bums was the efforts of Will Coursen-Carr and Kenneth Knudsen out of the bullpen. They combined to pitch four and two-thirds innings and allowing just one hit struck out six.

Tomorrow night, the Beach Bums and River City Rascals will once again get together for the second game of this three game series. Righty Reggie Johnson starts for River City while RHP Reinaldo Lopez will counter for the Beach Bums. First pitch is scheduled for 7:35pm(EDT) and Tom Willms will start the broadcast at 7:15 with the Budweiser pregame show. You can hear the game at TCBeachBums.com.
