Joliet Slammers News Release
Joliet, IL - The Joliet Slammers presented by ATI Physical Therapy hosted the Evansville Otters (2-2) on opening night at Joliet Route 66 Stadium and played a fairly even game until the top of the 7th inning when Otters shortstop Toby Thomas had a two-run single to extend the lead to 6-3. The Slammers fall to (0-4) with the loss.
It was an error filled night in Joliet with both teams combining for 7 errors and the Slammers and Otters took advantage. In the bottom of the first, Travis Bolin reached on an infield single then reached second by a throwing error. RJ Thompson hit a sacrifice fly, as well as Justin Garcia, and brought Bolin home. In the bottom of the 3rd Chaz Meadows walked then Justin Garcia singled and Meadows advanced to third. Chaz Meadows then scored on a throwing error by the pitcher. Caleb Eldridge tacked on a run after a solo homer in the top of the 4th for the Otters and a passed ball scored Chaz Meadows to give the Slammers a run as well.
The Slammers and Otters exchanged runs back and forth through the 5th inning with both teams tacking on a single run in each inning they scored. This scoring trend stopped however after Caleb Eldridge hit an RBI single to plate Hunter Cullen and give the Otters a 4-3 lead in the top of the 6th inning. The Otters also opened the lead up further after a two-run single by Otters shortstop Toby Thomas which scored Manny Cruz and Ryan Long giving Evansville a 6-3 lead. The Otters would hold onto this lead until the conclusion of the game and keep Joliet winless in the 2018 campaign thus far.
Joliet has a quick turnaround as they play at 10:05 am against the Otters tomorrow morning.
