Traverse City Beach Bums News Release
TRAVERSE CITY, MI - The Traverse City Beach Bums'(6-7) offense came to life thanks to big performances from Arby Fields, Steve Lohr, and Isaac Benard, as they defeated the Evansville Otters(7-6) by an 8-4 score.
After a scoreless first inning, Steve Lohr led off the second with a double to left. Two batters later, he scored on a Donald Glover Jr. single to make it 1-0. In the top of fourth, the Otters' Jeff Gardner hit a solo homer to tie the game but the Beach Bums regained the lead in the bottom of the inning as Lohr and Isaac Benard led off with singles then Arby Fields drove in Lohr with a single to right, making it 2-1.
In the fifth, Will Kengor led off by reaching second on an error then moved to third when Alexis Rivera grounded out. Lohr picked up the RBI with a single to score Kengor, extended the lead to two. Isaac Benard followed and blasted a two-run shot over the wall in right, putting an exclamation point on the inning, making it 5-1.
Glover Jr. led the sixth off with a double, moved to third on a wild pitch, then scored on an error, adding to the Traverse City advantage. After Fields walked, Kenny Peoples-Walls reached on a fielder's choice and Kengor singled to load the bases. Luke Lowery grounded into a double play but Fields scored from third to make it 7-1.
Lohr picked up his fourth hit of the night to lead off the seventh, and Benard singled as well to start another threat for the Bums. Glover Jr. Walked to load the bases then Field grounded in a run, as Lohr scored for the fourth time, for a seven run lead. Travis Harrison hit a three run homer in the eight to pull within four for Evansville but that's as close as they would come.
Jordan Desguin earned the win with a solid seven inning performance. He gave up just one run on three hits and three walks, while striking out four. He moves to 2-0. Tyler Vail dropped to 0-1 as he allowed five runs, two earned, on nine hits and a walk.
