(Kamloops) Cooler temperatures and cloudy skies greeted Lions hopefuls for the sixth day of 2010 training camp on Friday in Kamloops. It was the club's last double-session before their preseason match in Regina on Sunday. Saturday's practice will be employed primarily as a special teams walkthrough in conjunction with Fan Day activities.
Practice Notes: The morning session featured spirited team periods with most first-team offensive reps going to Casey Printers while second-team snaps were taken up by Travis Lulay; a move likely to be repeated in Regina as back-up Jarious Jackson will likely not make the trip as he progresses steadily after an off-season shoulder procedure.
Printers was crisp connecting with a variety of starters including Geroy Simon and O'Neil Wilson against the second team defensive secondary as first stringers Ryan Phillips (ankle), Darren Toney (ankle) and Korey Banks (hip) each took the morning off to repair some nicks. Lulay was equally in control during his time under centre finding Emmanuel Arceneaux, Tony Washington and Kerry Reed for nice gains.
Offensive line coach Dan Dorazio was especially vocal during the inside run period praising the work of Damane Duckett, Justin Sorensen and Sherko Haji-Rasouli.
The afternoon session was highlighted by a 40-play combination of standard offensive plays and no-huddle reps with literally dozens of personnel combinations on both sides of the ball.
Printers was again on target regardless of the receiver groupings as was Lulay who hooked up with Matt Chapdelaine on a long completion. Running back Jamal Robertson ripped off some slashing runs under a blazing Kamloops sun with Toddrick Pendland and Yonus Davis also displaying quick feet and a knack for finding the hole.
Watching: The infirmary is slowly clearing out, but Phillips, Toney and Banks took the pm session of as did Solomon Elimimian (hamstring), Steve Williams (groin). DL Richard Jones was back in action Friday.
Food Fare: Lunch at Thompson Rivers University consisted of sandwiches and salads while dinner featured Chinese smorgasbord which was very likely in the top three dinners to date.
Quotable: "Two things you don't do on those trails: look up or run backwards" - Jacques Chapdelaine with curious but accurate advice on running along the plethora of trails adjacent to Thompson Rivers University.
