
Baysox Pitch Their Way to Series Win

Trenton, NJ - Behind another strong pitching performance and three two-out runs, the Bowie Baysox (19-21) wrapped up a series win by beating the Trenton Thunder (22-21) 3-2 on Sunday afternoon.
For the second straight outing Devin Jones went seven innings to pick up the win. He allowed just two runs on five hits with four strikeouts and two walks.
Jones retired the last three batters he faced then the bullpen set down six in a row to finish off the game. Chris Petrini worked a perfect eighth and Zech Zinicola picked up his fifth save with a 1-2-3 ninth inning. Overall the bullpen has now throw 10.2 consecutive innings without allowing a hit.
The Baysox struck first in the second inning. With two outs, Luis Martinez and Garabez Rosa hit back-to-back singles. Kyle Hudson then knocked them both in with a double to make the score 2-0.
In the bottom of the fourth inning the Thunder evened up the game. With runners at the corners, Ali Castillo hit an RBI single that scored Kyle Roller. Then on the play Castillo got caught in a run down and Slade Heathcott raced home and scored from third to tie up the game 2-2.
The Baysox took the lead back in the top of the sixth inning. With two outs, Rosa singled and Hudson walked. Xavier Avery then knocked in Rosa with a bloop single down the left field line to give the Baysox a 3-2 lead.
The loss went to Fred Lewis who gave up the run in the sixth inning on one hit with one strikeout and one walk.
