BayHawks Fall to Red Claws, 110-99

Erie, Pennsylvania - The Erie BayHawks welcomed the Maine Red Claws to the Erie Insurance Arena on Friday night to start a crucial season-ending two game homestand. The BayHawks struggled to find their rhythm and fell by a final score of 110-99. The loss officially eliminates the BayHawks from playoff contention.

Maine (26-23) shot nearly 60% from the floor in the first quarter to take a 31-21 lead into the second period. Chris Wright led all scorers with 10 points for the Red Claws in the first quarter. In the second quarter, Erie (25-24) started off on a 9-0 run that pulled them within one. The Red Claws caught fire and jumped out to a 16 point advantage before the BayHawks cut the deficit to 11 at the break.

The Red Claws shot 61% from the field in the third quarter and extended their lead to a game-high 18 points on a Josh Selby three-pointer late in the frame. Erie made a strong push in the final stanza, cutting into the Maine advantage and drawing within five points with under a minute remaining. Maine was able to execute from the free throw line down the stretch and closed out the BayHawks 110-99.

Demonte Harper led the BayHawks with 22 points off the bench. Cory Higgins scored 20 points, his twelfth straight game with at least that amount. Erik Daniels finished with 13 and Wesley Witherspoon added 10 points and nine rebounds in his first start for the BayHawks. Maine's Wright led all scorers with 23 points to go along with 11 rebounds. Omar Reed (20), Selby (19), Curtis Jerrells (16), Fab Melo (14) and Mark Tyndale (13) all scored in double-digits for the Red Claws.

The two teams will wrap up the regular season tomorrow night at 7 PM at the Erie Insurance Arena. The first 1,000 fans through the doors will receive a free Commodore Perry bobblehead, courtesy of Penelec.
